spring landscape
april/may 2005

Every spring we go on a landscaping bonanza. Robert is chomping at the bit to get his hands in the dirt after a long winter. And Bekah is his faithful accomplice. As we work together, the landscaping frenzy slowly takes shape and becomes something of beauty. When we get comments about our yard from total strangers, we know that we're providing a little bit of joy and respite to the neighborhood.

Here are some samples of the work we've done this spring. The landscape is a work in progress, as it should be. This spring we were able to plant two new trees. The spruce planted in the front yard, at the corner of the sidewalk leading to the front door, is a Serbian Spruce. Off the west end of the porch, we ripped out an aged, overgrown Privet and planted a Blue Weeping Alaskan Cedar. This has always been one of Bekah's favorite evergreens, due in part to the "storybook" quality that it conjures up. (Below you can view before and after pictures.)

We hope you enjoy our landscape, even when viewing online. You can click on the pictures to the right for a larger view. Note that most all of the flowers that you see were planted before this spring.

Have fun!

Not only did we rip out the large Privet, but Robert built a small stone wall and trimmed the hedge back quite drastically. Eventually the stone wall will continue on, lining the entire front yard, and the small Privet hedge will be replaced with a delicate Boxwood hedge.
